All Tournaments are rated and will affect your Online ELO Rating. Tournaments are designed for rating elevation and FOA Titles achievements.
Tournaments are the only way to gain Online ELO Rating that will count for your FOA Title progress. To explore FOA Title requirements visit this page.
Online Elo — the only official Elo rating you can earn online, calculated by FIDE, available to every registered player. Your Online Elo is official from your very first rated game. Titles — AGM, AIM, AFM, ACM — require a PRO subscription and a connected FIDE ID.
On World Chess you may play in Tournaments weather you are a PRO subscriber or not. To choose and join a tournament, go to the Tournaments section to choose the tournament.
Set the type of the tournament, control, date etc. According to your preferences. Let’s say we’d like to play a Swiss system tournament on 12th of December with no entry fee and we do not mind the control.
Arena will suggest you a tournament. Click on it and then on the "Join" button. You will be notified by email 30 minutes before the tournament starts.
Both types are organized with either Arena or Swiss system. To read more about them please check this article.
