I already have a FIDE ID. Should I get another one on World Chess?

Why you only need one FIDE ID and how to connect your existing one.

No! A chess player can only have one FIDE ID. Think of it as your chess passport. If you already have one, all you need to do is connect it to your World Chess account.

Your FIDE ID is a unique number assigned to each player by FIDE. It doesn’t matter where or how you got it: the same FIDE ID is used for both over-the-board (OTB) and online FIDE-rated activities.

How do I connect my FIDE ID?

You’ll need a Platinum or Black membership.

  1. Click your avatar and choose Connect your FIDE ID.

  2. Choose I already have one before you start verification.

  3. Let the system find your profile on fide.com.

  4. Confirm the profile is yours by clicking It’s me.

  5. Complete a few simple verification steps.

The system didn’t find my profile. What should I do?

  • Check that you have a profile on fide.com.

  • Check that your name, date of birth and country are spelled exactly as in your fide.com profile.

  • Still not found? Proceed with a new FIDE ID and contact support@worldchess.com — we’ll help you connect your original one.

My profile is found, but I can’t select it

You can’t select a FIDE profile that is banned or already connected to another World Chess account. If you believe this is a mistake, contact support@worldchess.com.

I forgot to choose “I already have one” and got a new FIDE ID

No worries, we can fix it. See Can you reassign me with my original FIDE ID?
