World Chess Titles are official online chess titles recognized by FIDE. They were created to celebrate the achievements of online players and to encourage them to continue their chess journey, both online and over the board.
Are World Chess Titles official?
Your title is displayed on your FIDE profile at fide.com (unless you hold an OTB title, see Can I see my World Chess Title and rating on fide.com?), and it’s also shown at official over-the-board (OTB) tournaments when you play under your FIDE ID.
How are they different from OTB titles?
World Chess Titles are awarded under different regulations and only for games played in rated tournaments on World Chess. They are not the same as OTB titles. For example, an Arena Grandmaster (AGM) is not a Grandmaster (GM): to become a GM, you need to play in OTB tournaments and achieve GM norms.
Still, a World Chess Title is a real achievement and a clear sign that you’re ready to take the next step in your chess journey.
Unlike OTB titles, World Chess Titles are not divided by gender. They apply equally to all players.
What titles are there?
👑 Arena Grandmaster (AGM): 2000+
👑 Arena International Master (AIM): 1700+
👑 Arena FIDE Master (AFM): 1400+
👑 Arena Candidate Master (ACM): 1100+
You hold one title at a time, and each new title replaces the previous one.
For the full requirements and how to qualify, see How to get a World Chess Title?
Do I need to claim my title?
No. World Chess tracks your progress automatically and adds the title to your profile as soon as you qualify.
What happens to my title if my membership ends?
Your title stays with you. To earn your next title, you’ll need an active Platinum or Black membership. Your tournament games still count toward progress in the meantime.
Can I lose my title?
Your title is removed only if you delete your World Chess account or disconnect your FIDE ID from it.
