What is World Chess Rating? Is it official?

World Chess Rating is an Elo rating assigned to players on the World Chess, the official FIDE gaming platform. It measures proficiency in rapid, blitz, and bullet time controls and allows players to earn official online titles (AGM, AIM, AFM, ACM) recognized by FIDE and displayed on player profiles.

Unlike other online platforms, World Chess Ratings are directly recognized by FIDE if the player upgrades to PRO. PRO players get their World Chess Ratings and Titles integrated into official profiles on fide.com.

How do I get World Chess Rating?

To get your World Chess Rating you simply need to register on the World Chess platform. You can do it on WEB, IOS, or ANDROID.

Once you register, you'll be able to play for free with no limits.

Whenever you are ready to take it to the next level and get recognized by FIDE, you may Upgrade to PRO. Once you upgrade to PRO and connect your FIDE id, your World Chess Rating will become official, you'll get a fide.com profile, and you'll be eligible to claim FOA Titles.

If you need help registering or upgrading to PRO, check this step-by-step guide.

Do I start from scratch if I decide to upgrade?

No! Every game matters. None of your progress will be lost when you change your subscription plan.

Which games count toward title progression?

Only games in tournaments on the World Chess rating are taken into account in progress to the title. Playing in the lobby affects the rating, but is not taken into account when calculating the title.

What's NEW status?

You just got your subscription (congratulations!), and your status on World Chess appears as ‘New’. That means that you didn’t play enough games and don’t have any history on the platform.

To obtain your initial rating, you must play rated games with rated opponents. As soon as one of those games is a win or a draw, you must play 4 more rated games.

I have an otb rating, would that affect my online rating?

Yes, If a player already had an offline fide rating and it is higher than the current World Chess rating, we will update his rating according to clause 3.4 of FIDE's handbook.

I fulfilled all FOA Title requirements but did not get one. Why?

There are two possible reasons. Firstly, please double-check the requirements and the blue title indicator in your profile.

If there is no mistake, it's probably your subscription. You need to Upgrade to PRO and Connect your FIDE id to get your official Title.

I used to have only World Chess Rating. Am I getting an official FIDE Rating for free now?

For players who have both FOA and World Chess Ratings the merge would work in favour of the higher of the two. For the rest of the players, World Chess Rating becomes the main and only one.

The World Chess Rating gets official as soon as you upgrade to PRO and connect your FIDE id.
